Abstract

This article presents a bioenergetic reading of clinical care in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), articulating developmental neuroscience, polyvagal theory, and body psychotherapy to understand how the body, sensory experience, and relationships shape autistic experience. Based on a theoretical synthesis, it argues that ASD does not respond to the classical management of neuroses, requiring interventions that reduce sensory load, increase predictability, and sustain (co)regulation as the foundation of the therapeutic encounter. The concept of the tonic envelope is introduced as a central axis for understanding limits, bodily boundaries, and modes of affective modulation. The integration of breathing, grounding, relational rhythmicity, and contextual safety offers a clinical pathway capable of fostering presence, social availability, and more integrated participation. The article advocates for a practice that abandons corrective logic and recognizes the uniqueness of each body, proposing an embodied, ethical form of care that is sensitive to the needs of autistic patients.
